"People hate performance
reviews." After nearly twenty years working in major corporations as a
human resource executive and manager, this is how Gary Markle came to summarize
what he now calls "industry's poorest performing personnel practice."
In this highly interactive workshop, Markle makes his case for the abolishment
of conventional methods of performance evaluation and teaches participants how
to replace them with a more effective and efficient system that he calls
"Catalytic Coaching."
The workshop will give participants a
complete overview of a performance management system designed to accomplish
five key business objectives:
• Change behavior
• Motivate employees to work harder
• Reduce turnover
• Develop people for assuming greater
responsibility
• Minimize legal exposure
Value to Members:
Participants are
given instruction on how to use the system to deal with common but challenging
special cases like: The Problem Performer (a poor performer with good
attitude); The Liability (a poor performer with poor attitude); The Climber (a
good performer with high potential); The Unreliable (a good performer when
s/he's actually there); and The Rebel (a good performer but radical nonconformist). The workshop includes an exercise in which
participants complete a coaching worksheet in preparation for a session with at
least one real direct report.
Who should attend:
Senior HR
professionals, including vice presidents, directors, senior managers of HR, and
HR generalists in "business partner" or "consulting" roles,
as well as the CFO's, COO's, and Business Unit
managers who are their business partners.
Biography:
Gary Markle is a Vistage
member and strategic human resource consultant based in Atlanta, Georgia. He is author of the book, "Catalytic Coaching: The End of
the Performance Review," which was released in February of 2000. Markle's consulting firm, Energage, is
dedicated to helping companies "energize and engage the human spirit at
work." As part of this practice, he has helped dozens of companies, both
large and small, implement the principles contained in his
book.
